POSITION: Marketing Communications Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Strategic Initiatives

RATE: $24.00 per hour, with potential for additional compensation based on qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY:  

This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading a wide range of internal and external marketing and communication initiatives while working to build a consistent brand image in support of the strategic goals and objectives of the Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP), Upper Peninsula Health Group (UPHG), and Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions (UPHCS).  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Follows established UPHP policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
 
2. Creates, writes, edits, proofs, and facilitates distribution of communications for the corporation and its entities, including but not limited to, member/provider materials, staff communications, news releases, community relations materials, website and other electronic content, social media content, advertisements, and executive bios.
 
3. Researches topics and target audiences for campaign promotions and utilizes information to create materials for marketing advertisements, membership solicitations, mailings, website, and other informational pieces; measures and tracks effectiveness of campaign efforts as appropriate.
 
4. Promotes product lines and services through public relations initiatives and implements marketing communications campaigns.
 
5. Develops content to share across multiple communications channels including blog features, photos/graphics, videos, print collateral, and communication templates.
 
6. Serves as the liaison with external vendors for composition, printing, reproduction, mailing, and other related services, ensuring quality and cost controls; manages printing budget.
 
7. Leads development of text messaging campaigns with appropriate staff to ensure all messages support strategic goals/objectives, adhere to established business rules, and that intended target audiences are reached; main staff liaison with text message vendor.
 
8. Identifies, develops, and shares information in various formats to highlight company impact and help multiple audiences understand the business and value propositions.
 
9. Works with advertisers for accurate and timely ad submissions.
 
10. Assists in planning, coordinating, promoting, and marketing organizational and/or sponsored events and conferences.
 
11. Develops relationships with media, serves as corporation media contact, and coordinates all press interviews. 
 
12. Responsible for researching media coverage and industry trends to identify and apply new methods, tools, and platforms for communicating key messages. 
 
13. Maintains confidentiality of client data.
 
14. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Minimum:

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, public relations or related field

 

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field with a minor in English or journalism

 

Experience:

Minimum:

Two (2) to five (5) years of marketing and/or communications experience; background in content creation and campaign development. 
 

Preferred:

Experience with web content management tools such as Word Press or Emma; background in 
graphic design with experience using Adobe Creative Cloud or similar graphic design software
 

Required Skills:

Keyboarding proficiency
Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Excellent human relation and oral/written communication with advanced knowledge of vocabulary, spelling, proper grammar, and punctuation
Excellent organizational abilities with attention to detail
Proofreading, editing, and writing skills
Research and analytical skills
Ability to operate standard office equipment (photocopier/scanner, fax, etc.)
