POSITION: Senior Financial Analyst (Part-Time)
DEPARTMENT: Finance
BASE RATE: $28.83 per hour, with potential for additional compensation based on qualifications.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting strategic decision-making through in-depth financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting. A primary focus will be driving the development and use of financial analysis tools and reporting systems to improve visibility into key performance metrics and support organizational growth and efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follows established Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
2. Leads the design, development, and enhancement and use of financial analysis tools and reporting to support operational, clinical, and senior management decision-making.
3. Leads the development of Return on Investment (ROI) analyses to evaluate, monitor, and optimize current and potential investments and program changes.
4. Conducts in-depth analysis of capitation payments, medical costs and utilization trends, and administrative expenses to support rate advocacy, cost containment, and profitability strategies.
5. Provides financial analysis support for strategic initiatives, including value-based care arrangements, risk adjustment, and regulatory changes.
6. Coordinates fulfillment of ad-hoc financial analysis and report deliverables requested by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) and the Michigan Associates of Health Plans (MAHP).
7. Collaborates cross-functionally to identify data needs and develop reports that support informed decision-making. Supports accountants and department managers as needed with financial analysis, insights, and reporting to facilitate budget preparation, variance explanations, and strategic financial planning.
8. Assists in the development of the annual budgets including the development of targets for revenue and expenses.
9. Continually prepares accurate financial forecasts as directed by management. Develops detailed revenue, expense, and profit forecasts for new service and product initiatives.
10. Provides support for month-end and special project accounting tasks as needed, serving as a back-up resource.
11. Maintains confidentiality of client data.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Preferred:
Master’s degree in business administration, finance, or business/financial/data analytics, or
CPA/CMA
Experience:
Minimum:
Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in business financial planning, analysis, accounting,
or similar role that includes creating financial projections and reports
Preferred:
Five (5) years or more of experience in business financial planning, financial data analysis,
accounting, or similar role that includes creating financial projections and reports;
experience with Medicaid and/or Medicare financial reporting, cost analysis, and
reimbursement models; experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
and financial systems
Required Skills:
Keyboarding proficiency
Working knowledge of MS Office Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
Good human relation and oral/written communication skills
Good organizational and prioritization skills with great attention to detail
Ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences
Ability to adhere to deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Skills:
Oriented to managed care
